Date: 14th Feb 2026 8:00pm - 10:30pm

Join us on Valentine’s Day and celebrate your love (of drag). The Big Experiment is the culmination of our Drag Lab Autumn 2025/26 programme, and we’ll be welcoming six of Cumbria’s next generation of drag talent to The Box Theatre at Kendal College.

Co-hosted by Kendal’s own Andi Blewitt, be prepared for a night of entertaining experimentation, with performances have been in development since late last year. All the performers on the bill have been taking part in Drag Lab, a series of workshops for folks to develop their drag skills and confidence in performing. With that in mind, we’re looking for a supportive audience.

So if that’s you, why not come up to the (Drag) Lab, and see what’s on the slab.

This event is pay what you decide, so when you book your ticket select how much you’d like to pay, and if you choose, you can give a little bit extra on the night. Money raised from ticket sales will be shared 50/50 between Kendal Pride 2026 and our friends at Ragtag Arts who have recently had a flood in their building.

Drag Lab is a LGBTQIA+ community-led, creative programme run by Kendal Pride between Oct 2025 – Feb 2026 supported by Westmorland & Furness Council. This Drag Lab Scratch performance is presented in partnership with Kendal College.

Doors open 7.30pm for a 8pm show. Alcoholic and soft drinks available, but ID will be required if you are lucky enough to look under 25.

Please note that the evening’s performances include swearing, innuendo, politics and references to conversion therapy. Age advisory 16+

Not sure what a scratch night is? Read on.

Scratch nights are events where artists and writers share short, new, work-in-progress live performances in front of an audience. Its a place for experimentation and risk-taking, and gives performers the chance to see how things work in front of their peers and the public (that’s you.) If you’re coming along, be aware that the performers are in many cases trying something out for the first time, and there’ll be a chance for you to give constructive feedback as part of the night.
